monument to 500th anniversary of the Diocese of Funchal


This monument deployed in the gardens of Almirante Reis aims to mark the 500th anniversary of the Diocese of Funchal. Results from the contributions of emigrants suggested the possibility of building a monument to tick off this jubilee date, to signify the Christian faith that led their parishes and that still celebrate with great enthusiasm in the countries where they live. The work is the Madeiran sculptor Ricardo Velosa.

Este monumento implantado nos jardins do Almirante Reis visa assinalar os 500 anos da Diocese do Funchal. Resulta do contributo de paroquianos e de emigrantes sugeriram a hipótese da edificação de um monumento que assinalasse esta data jubilar, que exprimisse a fé cristã que levaram das suas paróquias e que ainda hoje celebram com grande entusiasmo, nas terras para onde foram viver.
A obra é do escultor madeirense Ricardo Velosa.
