Two days ago I put a photo of the Pelourinho. Today I put again another one of the same place that I taken yesterday, a day when it rained with great intensity in the city of Funchal and all island. What was once a pleasant place yesterday was full of water, as can be seen.
Unfortunately, bad weather on the island caused deaths and many wounded, and heavy damage.
Há dois dias coloquei uma fotografia do Pelourinho. Hoje volto a colocar uma outra do mesmo Pelourinho só que tirada ontem, num dia em que choveu com grande intensidade na cidade do Funchal e em toda a ilha. O que antes era um lugar aprazível ontem estava cheio de água, conforme se pode ver.
Infelizmente, o mau tempo na ilha provocou dezenas de mortos e muitos feridos, além de avultados danos materiais.

Neste local foi, durante anos, um estaleiro naval, que deu lugar a um hotel. Estes são alguns dos equipamentos preservados na zona velha da cidade.
Cape vapors
Scale model of the Capetown Castle, one of the many ships that were decades regular links to South Africa and elsewhere. This type of ship was known on the island for "cape vapors" (because going to the Cape Town at the southern African country). This copy is one of the rooms of the hotel Porto Santa Maria.
Modelo à escala do Capetown Castle, um dos muitos navios que faziam há décadas ligações regulares à África do Sul e para outras paragens. Este tipo de navios ficou conhecido na ilha por vapores do Cabo (porque iam até à cidade do Cabo, naquele país sul-africano). Este exemplar encontra-se numa das salas do hotel Porto Santa Maria.

Esta é uma das vistas que tenho da minha casa. Em primeiro plano o Museu Quinta das Cruzes, e, lá em cima, a Fortaleza do Pico.

Yesterday was a hard day in Funchal and in all island of Madeira. The constant rain and strong wind did not ease.
During afternoon, the wind southeast, unusual in the city, encouraged the marginal waves with very strong that this statue was tirelessly to try to sustain the fury of the sea filled with brown land washed away by streams that filled with heavy rains.
Special thanks to my friend and colleague Spinola warned that the waves, and suggested that would make this photo, because other day we had walked around the statue to see the best frameworks. This, with the waves, was one of them.
Without the usual camera I use a Canon, I used what was in my pocket, my phone BlackBerry.
Ontem foi um dia complicado no Funchal e em toda a ilha da Madeira. A chuva constante e o vento forte não facilitaram. Durante tarde, com o vento de sudeste, pouco habitual na cidade, animaram a marginal com ondas muito fortes que esta estátua foi incansável para tentar sustentar a fúria do mar carregado de castanho da terra arrastada pelas ribeiras que encheram com as intensas chuvas.
Um agradecimento especial ao meu amigo e colega Spínola que alertou para a ondulação e sugeriu que fizesse esta foto, isto porque, há dias tínhamos andado à volta da estátua a ver os melhores enquadramentos. Este, com as ondas, era um deles.
Sem a câmara habitual que utilizo, uma Canon, recorri ao que tinha no bolso, o meu telemóvel BlackBerry.
On fusion art
During the event ON Fusion Art 2008, by Porto Bay, held in 2008, in the old town, young artists have interpreted and painted tile spot, live, to join in 500th anniversary of Funchal, which was held in year.
The result is a mural made up of 500 tiles, which opened in October of that year in the Garden of Almirante Reis.
Durante o evento ON Fusion Art 2008, by Porto Bay, realizado em 2008, na Zona Velha da cidade, pequenos artistas interpretaram e pintaram em azulejo in loco, ao vivo, para se associarem aos 500 Anos da Cidade do Funchal, que se comemorou nesse ano.
O resultado é um mural composto por 500 azulejos, inaugurado em Outubro daquele ano no Jardim do Almirante Reis.
