5 fingers , five years . It's true .
It seems like yesterday but soon slipped half a decade with photographs appearing every day of Funchal, a share that I am very proud .
This journey led me to have people around the world who follow the work that started that day April 29, 2009 without any goal that was not to share my view of the capital city of Madeira.


Funchal Daily Photo contributed to increase my passion for photography, I would embrace 100 %, and also be a port of contacts of people who found the portal the opportunity for a first contact with Funchal, in particular, and also the about Madeira island, in Portugal.
So it was naturally, but surprisingly, I received the first contact of the communications giant, the New York Times, when a travel journalist came to Madeira do a job about the destination, which would be published in the city apple newspaper.

Was also due to this job I received invitations to exhibitions on the work produced.
It was also the work done that I have always received incentives to continue to show the city of Funchal from different angle.
Interestingly, most came from people who live outside of Portugal, some of which satieted the longing of an island they had known, and aroused the interest of others who said they wanted to know the Madeira island.

But this path was not always easy.

Besides the dedication required setbacks that had demoralized who was accustomed to seeing your project grow continuously.

The first setback was when the international portal City Daily Photo - bringing together the major cities of the world around a common purpose, which embodies this site - had a problem for some time and had to change platform.
With so much international traffic was lost.
Later, they returned to congregate in the same space, but there were links that are broken and are unlikely to resume.

Another one was when Blogger from Google, which is housed Funchal Daily Photo, decided to change the endings, causing each country to adopt your after the names.
What was once an  international funchaldailyphoto.blogspot.com, with ".com" change to national ".pt"

This really messed with the rank of the site that a maximum of 10 came to be with level 4, which is clearly good for a project done from scratch by an amateur.
Later I decided to create my own site address, failing to use the " blogspot".
With that wanted to create a larger site identity and became www.funchaldailyphoto.com.

But, as was done in an amateur way, the rank still remained a long time in 3, was completely lost to 0 where stay since some few months.
I confess that demoralizes.

And now?
Well, now I will continue.
I confess that I would have a more professional website and have the ability to have the best Canon cameras.
Those that have, and cherish recognize their limitations. I would say that shot all "juice" that they can give.

When I started Funchal Daily Photo it was with a small project photographed Olympus, slightly larger than a credit card.
Basically, it was always so.

For some years now I photograph, always with different brands and affordable.

In February 2009 I bought my first Canon, a PorwerShot SX 110 IS, which quickly surprised me positively.

In November 2011 the first time used another Canon, the PowerShot SX 30 IS. One option that was due to the large zoom of 35X that had real, and the previous still worked perfectly. Is still perfect .

But it was a little big to walk every day.
Therefore , in April 2013 got the Canon IXUS 240 HS , a small wonder that he started to walk with me every day to the waist . Today I have three Canon to work perfectly but I need more and maybe Canon can give me a top camera.

 5 dedos, 5 anos. É verdade.
Parece que foi ontem mas depressa passou meia década com fotografias constantes todos os dias da cidade do Funchal, uma partilha que muito me orgulha.

Esta viagem levou-me a ter pessoas em todo a mundo que seguem o trabalho que comecei naquele dia 29 de abril de 2009 sem qualquer objetivo que não fosse o de partilhar a minha visão da cidade capital da ilha da Madeira.

Funchal Daily Photo contribuiu para aumentar o meu gosto pela fotografia, que gostaria de abraçar a 100%, e igualmente ser uma porta de contactos de pessoas que encontraram no portal a oportunidade para um primeiro contacto com o Funchal, em particular, e igualmente acerca da ilha da Madeira.

Por isso, foi com naturalidade, mas com surpresa, que recebi o primeiro contacto do gigante da comunicação, o New York Times, quando um jornalista de viagens veio à Madeira fazer um trabalho acerca do destino, o qual viria a publicar no jornal da cidade da maçã.

Foi também devido a este trabalho que recebi convites para exposições acerca do trabalho produzido.

E foi também pelo trabalho feito que sempre recebi estímulos para continuar a mostrar a cidade do Funchal de ângulos diferentes. Curiosamente, surgiu mais de pessoas que vivem fora de Portugal, algumas das quais saciavam as saudades de uma ilha que tinham conhecido, e despertou o interesse de outras que diziam querer conhecer a Madeira.

Mas este caminho não foi sempre fácil.
Além da dedicação que exigiu contou com contratempos que desmoralizaram quem estava habituado a ver o seu projeto crescer continuamente.
O primeiro contratempo foi quando o portal internacional City Daily Photo - que reúne as principais cidades do mundo em torno de um propósito comum, no qual se insere este site - teve um problema durante algum tempo e teve de mudar de plataforma.
Com isso, muito tráfego internacional que tinha perdeu-se.
Mais tarde, voltaram a congregar num mesmo espaço, mas existiram elos que se quebraram e dificilmente são retomados.

Depois, a Google, a quem pertence o Blogger - onde está alojado Funchal Daily Photo - decidiu alterar as terminações, levando cada país a adotar o seu.

Ou seja, o que antes era funchaldailyphoto.blogspot.com perdeu o internacional ".com" e ficou com o nacional ". pt".
Esta realidade mexeu com o Ranking do site que num máximo de 10 chegou a estar com nível 4, o que é manifestamente bom para um projecto feito de raiz por um amador.
Mais tarde, decidi criar um endereço eletrónico próprio, deixando de usar o "blogspot".
Com isso quis dar uma maior identidade ao site e passou a ser www.funchaldailyphoto.com.
Mas, como foi feito de forma amadora, o ranking que ainda se mantinha há longo tempo em 3, perdeu-se completamente. Está em 0 há alguns meses.
Confesso que desmoraliza.

E agora?
Bem, agora vou continuar.
Confesso que gostaria de ter um site mais profissional e ter a possibilidade de ter melhores câmaras da Canon. Mas tudo isso tem um custo que não é prioritário nas despesas.

As máquinas fotográficas que tenho e muito estimo reconheço as suas limitações.
Diria que tiro "o sumo" que podem dar.

Quando comecei com projeto fotografava com uma pequena Olympus, pouco maior que um cartão de crédito.
No fundo, foi sempre assim.
Há já alguns anos que fotografo, sempre com marcas diferentes e acessíveis.

Mas algo mudou em fevereiro de 2009 quando comprei a minha primeira Canon, a PorwerShot SX 110 IS, que depressa me surpreendeu pela positiva, pela facilidade de manuseamento e os resultados surpreendentes.

Em novembro de 2011 utilizava pela primeira vez outra Canon, a PowerShot SX 30 IS. Uma opção que se deveu ao grande zoom de 35X reais que tinha, sendo que a anterior ainda trabalhava na perfeição. Aliás, ainda está perfeita.
Mas era um pouco grande para andar todos os dias.

Em abril de 2013 adquiri a Canon IXUS 240 HS, uma pequena maravilha que passou a andar comigo todos os dias à cintura.
Hoje tenho três Canon que funcionam na perfeição mas que não me permitem maior progressão.
Um dia pode ser que o Canon me ofereça um dos seus topo de gama.

This is an old building in Funchal city, near Jardim Municipal. On the ground floor as shop, but I think that in the others floors everything it's closed.

Este é um antigo edifício na cidade de Funchal, perto do Jardim Municipal. No piso térreo, existe uma loja em atividade, mas acho que nos outros andares estão fechados.

The square of the fish in Mercado dos Lavradores is one of the most visited places by tourists visiting Funchal and Madeira island. Partly because of its architecture but also because the species of fish, often unaware, and some of them are part of the traditional Madeiran cuisine.

This advertising is in the Funchal Port and is a support for the thousands of tourists who pass there after disembarking the cruise ships. It is a support already indicating that the newest museum space of Funchal, CR7 Museum, is only about 500 meters away. Remember that this museum is the best world football player, the Madeiran Cristiano Ronaldo.

In Madeira island, this is a Dragoeiro, a Dracaena draco. I find it in Quinta Museu das Cruzes.
They call it like a drago. Is a subtropical tree-like plant in the genus Dracaena, native to the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, Madeira, and locally in western Morocco, and introduced to the Azores.

Encontrei-o na Quinta Museu das Cruzes.
Fora da Madeira também chamam drago. É uma planta/árvore subtropical como no género Dracaena, nativas das ilhas Canárias, Cabo Verde, Madeira, e localmente em Marrocos ocidental, e que foi introduzida nos Açores.

Painting in Funchal port after the vessel, USS Taylor FFG 50, passed through Madeira island. It's an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, and a ship of the United States Navy named for Commander Jesse J. Taylor (1925–1965), in the paint, a naval aviator who was awarded the Navy Cross posthumously for his heroism in the Vietnam War.

The photo was taken from the gardens of the English church, and shows the tower of the church of St. Peter and parts of the Natural History Museum of Funchal, the Frederico de Freitas Museum, and, in the foreground, we can see old buildings that will give way to a hotel and housing quality.

This is a statue made in Sissi honor, which is next to the Pestana Casino Park.
Sissi , or Elisabeth of Austria was born in 24 December 1837 and die in 10 September 1898.
She was the wife of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress of Austria Thus and Queen of Hungary . In the June 8, 1867, along with her husband, Sissi was crowned Queen of Hungary following the signing of the Austro-Hungarian compromise.
Sissi suffered from depression because of her unhappy marriage and strict life in the Austrian court.
In 1860, she left Vienna after contracting a lung disease, which was presumably psychosomatic.
Spent the winter on the island of Madeira. Returned to visit the island of Madeira.
Was known not only for beauty but also for his taste in fashion, diets and exercise, passion for riding and several lovers.
At 1.72 m, Sissi was unusually tall . She was taller than her husband .
The empress also wrote poems.
In September 10, 1898, in Geneva , Switzerland , Sissi was assassinated by an Italian anarchist, Luigi Lucheni.
On the morning of the 10th , after leaving the Beau-Rivage Hotel where she was staying , the path of the vapor to pass through Geneva Lake Geneva, Sissi was approached by Luigi that struck with a fine stylus needle-shaped heart. The empress fel , but still managed to get up apparently without feeling any pain. Without realizing the severity of the blow he had suffered, hurried along to their accompanying order not to miss the boat. Elisabeth of Austria fainted on board, the boat returned to the dock and she was taken to the hotel where he died that afternoon.

Sissi, ou Elisabeth da Áustria, nasceu em 24 de dezembro de 1837 e morreu em 10 de setembro de 1898. Era a esposa do imperador Franz Joseph I e Imperatriz da Áustria e Rainha da Hungria.
 A 8 de junho de 1867, junto com seu marido, Sissi foi coroada rainha da Hungria na sequência da assinatura do compromisso austro-húngaro.
Sissi sofria de depressão por causa de seu casamento infeliz e a vida rigoroso na corte austríaca.

O barco voltou ao cais e foi levada para o hotel onde morreu naquela tarde.
 O seu corpo está enterrado no Royal Cripta da Igreja dos Capuchinhos Habsburgos, em Viena, ao lado de seu filho e do seu marido.

In Madeira island this tree is called Sumaúma. In english, is Kapok. The tree grows to 60-70 meters. The fiber, like cotton, is light, very buoyant, resilient, resistant to water but it is very flammable.

The museum CR7, from Cristiano Ronaldo, is one of the latest cultural offerings of the island of Madeira.
 In this photograph I tried connecting the Madeiran football player playing at Real Madrid, which is exposed in wax at full scale, with the Golden Ball as the player has earned this year, referring to 2013, through reflection.
What you see here is an inverted plan 180 in relation to what is actually in the museum.

O museu CR7, de Cristiano Ronaldo, é uma das ofertas culturais mais recentes da ilha da Madeira.
Nesta fotografia procurei ligar o jogador de futebol madeirense a jogar no Real Madrid, que está exposto em cera, à escala real, com a Bola de Ouro que o jogador ganhou este ano, referente a 2013, através do reflexo.
O que aqui se vê é um plano invertido de 180º em relação ao que está, na realidade, no museu.

With over more than 126 years of history, Fábrica Mel-de-Cana Ribeiro Sêco de V. Melim, Lda is a reference in the production of sugarcane syrup, a product that crosses its identity with Madeira Island's own identity.
This photo have just a few days because the factory is receiving sugar cane to transform in sugar cane honey recognized for its great quality.
