A big scare
One of these days, an amateur angler must have caught a big scare. The Ruby Princess cruise ship was approaching the port of Funchal, after crossing the Atlantic, coming from Fort Lauderdale, United States of America. He realized that something was on its way and therefore whistled to warn of their approach. However, only managed to leave after the great ship passing by very close. Nothing happened and the little boat just left there some time later. But the shock came.
You can see in the bigger picture the little boat between the cruise ship and the tower of the Madeira Maritime Station. And still more detail, the second image, it seems already to leave where he was.

Um dia destes, um pescador amador deve ter apanhado um grande susto. O navio de cruzeiros Ruby Princess fazia a aproximação ao Porto do Funchal, depois de atravessar o Atlântico, vindo de Fort Lauderdale, no Estados Unidos da América. Apercebeu-se que havia algo na sua rota e, por isso, apitou para avisar da sua aproximação. Contudo, só conseguiu sair depois do grande navio por passar bem rente. Nada aconteceu e o pequeno barco apenas saiu dali algum tempo depois. Mas o susto ficou.
Pode ver na foto maior o pequeno barco atrás, entre o navio de cruzeiros e a torre da Gare Marítima da Madeira. E ainda com mais pormenor, na segunda imagem, ao que parece já a sair de onde estava.

A hotel in the mountains

A clean stream
The city of Funchal is crossed by the wood we call "ribeiras". These are small streams that flow into the bay from the capital. In this case, the photo refers to the Ribeira de Santa Luzia, which lies between that of Ribeira de João Gomes, at east, and Ribeira de São João, at west.

Depart with sun
This vessel, the Volcan de Tijarafe passes twice weekly in the port of Funchal. It belongs to the Spanish company Naviera Armas, with headquarters in the Canary Islands. The first passage is Saturday. Come to Gran Canaria and leaves Madeira towards Portimaão in southern Portugal. Come back to Funchal on Monday, the same day the she leaves for Tenerife, in Canary Islands.

Vem de Gran Canaria e deixa a Madeira em direcção a Portimão, no sul de Portugal. Regressa e volta a passar no Funchal na segunda-feira, dia em que sai para Tenerife, nas Canárias.

Tower lit with flowers
The city of Funchal was facing last week celebrations for one of its icons: the flowers. This image shows some of which exist throughout the year hanging in the streets. I tried to make a mixture and I composed flowers with the light and with the tower of the building of the Fiscal Affairs Department, one of the most photographed in the city from tourists.

A cidade do Funchal ainda está viver da semana passada de festas por um dos seus ícones: as flores. Esta imagem mostra algumas das que existem ao longo do ano penduradas pelas ruas. Procurei fazer uma mistura e enquadrei as flores com a luz e a torre do edifício da Direcção Regional dos Assuntos Fiscais, uma das mais fotografadas da cidade pelos turistas.

What seems, is not always true. This image shows a paraglider practitioner to prepare for landing. Sure it's not on top of the building but in an area near the sea.

I found this "marriage" of a door bells in Rua dos Ferreiros (Ferreiros Street). The new interface is very simple. Perhaps it makes more noise, but is much more ugly and with no art.

Chaminé do Thomson Dream, o navio de cruzeiros da Thomson Cruises que passou no porto do Funchal há precisamente um mês. Não é um paquete que viage muitas vezes para a capital da ilha da Madeira. O símbolo do grupo Tui, dono da companhia inglesa, com um largo sorriso fica bem no azul celeste da chaminé.

A big day in Funchal port
This image was taken on April 11. One day they were in Funchal four cruise ships. How to fit everyone inside, one was out. In the present case was the Nieuw Amsterdam, as seen in the picture, where also are the AIDAblu, far right, and Island Escape. Outside the picture was the MSC Fantasia. It was a day of great movement in the port, in the city and island tours with thousands of tourists from cruise ships.

Esta imagem foi obtida no dia 11 de Abril. Um dia em que estiveram no Porto do Funchal quatro navios de cruzeiro. Como cabiam todos no interior, um ficou fora. No caso concreto foi o Nieuw Amsterdam, conforme se pode ver na foto, onde também estão o Aidablu, mais à direita, e o Island Escape. Fora da imagem estava o MSC Fantasia. Foi um dia de grande movimento no porto, na cidade e nas excursões pela ilha com milhares de turistas dos navios de cruzeiro.
The beauty of collors
This plant or tree is called in Portuguese language Olaia. Has the scientific name Cercis siliquastrum. It is the family Leguminosae and originates from southern Europe and Asia. I found it in the Colégio Square, next to the Cafe do Meseu. The colors of your plants attracted my attention. Its a frame similar that I have taken some photos at other times of year that I have had the opportunity to share with you.

Esta planta ou árvore chama-se em português Olaia. Tem o nome científico cercis siliquastrum. É da família leguminosae e tem origem do Sul da Europa e da Ásia. Encontrei-a na Praça do Município, junto ao Café do Teatro. As cores das suas plantas despertaram a minha atenção. Em relação ao enquadramento, já tirei umas duas fotografias noutras alturas do ano e tive ocasião de as partilhar consigo.
Cruise ship Ventura, Bernardo Camacho
The cruise ship Ventura, from the british company P&O, is not a constant presence in Funchal port, but passes through the capital of Madeira Island a few times during the year. It's a cruise ship with avant-garde lines, with huge outdoor cabins, as you can see in this zoom made by my soon Bernardo.

O navio de cruzeiros ventura, da companhia inglesa P&O, não é uma presença assídua no Porto do Funchal, mas passa pela capital da ilha da Madeira algumas vezes durante o ano. É um navio de linhas vanguardistas, com imensos camarotes exteriores, conforme se pode ver neste zoom feito pelo meu filho Bernardo.
