I do not guarantee but I think these pieces which is by the Lido belonged to one of the largest factories that Madeira had in transforming sugarcane into sugar Torreão factory which now no longer exists.

In its place made the Garden of Santa Luzia.

Who does not know the story hardly knows that represented. Heritage was the chimney and a few pieces like this almost hidden.

Eu não garanto mas penso que estas peças que estão junto ao Lido pertenciam a uma das maiores unidades fabris que a Madeira teve na transformação de cana de açúcar em açúcar na fábrica do Torreão que hoje não existe mais.
No seu lugar fizeram o Jardim de Santa Luzia.

"O semeador", a sculpture dating back to 1923

A different embodiment of the statue of the "O Semeador" ("The Sower") that since December 2008 is next to City Hall.
The statue was designed by the Madeiran Francisco Franco (1885-1955) and date from 1923, when the sculptor was living in Paris.
The sculpture was exposed publicly in Funchal, for the first time, the December 7, 1936 when it is placed on the Tenerife Square.
Thirty years later was transferred to the main entrance of the former Junta Geral of Funchal, at Av. Zarco, now the Regional Government.
In 1989 was installed on a wide pedestal in Santa Catarina Park where he remained until mid-2007.

Um enquadramento diferente da estátua de "O Semeador" que desde dezembro de 2008 se encontra junto aos Paços do Concelho.
A estátua é da autoria do madeirense Francisco Franco (1885-1955) e data de 1923, altura em que o escultor se encontrava a viver em Paris.
A escultura foi exposta publicamente no Funchal, pela primeira vez, a 7 de dezembro de 1936 aquando da sua colocação na Praça de Tenerife.
Trinta anos mais tarde foi transferida para a entrada principal da ex-Junta Geral do Funchal, na Av. Zarco, agora do Governo Regional.
Em 1989 foi instalada sobre um amplo pedestal no Parque de Santa Catarina onde permaneceu até meados de 2007.

I do not know the history of this Puch motorcycle I found one day in the parking area for motorcycles in the Praça do Município. But woke me up by its lines that give it a great personality.
Puch is a manufacturing company located in Graz, Austria.
The company was founded in 1889 by the industrialist Johann Puch and produced automobiles, bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles.

Desconheço a história desta moto que encontrei um dia destes na zona de estacionamento para motas na Praça do Município. Mas despertou-me pelas suas linhas que lhe conferem uma grande personalidade.
A Puch é uma empresa de fabricação localizada em Graz, na Áustria.
A empresa foi fundada em 1889 pelo industrial Johann Puch e produziu automóveis, bicicletas, ciclomotores e motocicletas.

I did this recently in photography tower facing south Sacred Art Museum. Shows a tile panel Historian blue and white, a Lisbon workshop, the tower Avista Navios the Sacred Art Museum, a little-known space, even for those who visit the museum.

Shows the sequence of the three theological virtues, Faith, Hope and Charity, with framing plant motifs and concheados, datable to the end of the second quarter of the eighteenth century.

Fiz estas fotografias recentemente na torre voltada a sul do Museu de Arte Sacra. Mostra um painel azulejar historiado a azul e branco, de uma oficina lisboeta, na torre Avista Navios do Museu de Arte Sacra, um espaço pouco conhecido, mesmo para quem visita o museu.

Apresenta a sequência das três virtudes teologais: Fé, Esperança e Caridade, com emolduramento de motivos vegetalistas e concheados, datável do fim do segundo quartel do século XVIII.

This morning there was a solar eclipse.
In Funchal was visible for a few moments, one morning with many clouds. I have not had opportunity to capture the eclipse because I had other things to do but always got this photo during the period when it was happening and to leave the city with a dark and dimmed light.
Here, the sun's rays that the moon was not covering tear through the clouds.

Esta manhã aconteceu um eclipse do sol.
No Funchal foi visível por alguns momentos, numa manhã com muitas nuvens. Eu não tive oportunidade de captar o eclipse porque tinha outras coisas a fazer mas sempre consegui este momento durante o período em que estava a acontecer e a deixar a cidade com uma luz escura e esbatida.
Aqui, os raios do sol que a lua não tapava rasgam por entre as nuvens.

The idea of this tribute was it's for the economist Eduardo Jesus who just released a book about that historic moment.

É uma homenagem a Bernard Harvey Foster que trouxe à Madeira em 1904 o primeiro automóvel.
A ideia desta homenagem nasceu do economista madeirense Eduardo Jesus que acaba de lançar um livro acerca daquele momento histórico.

The Christian Radich was in Madeira recently.
This is a sailboat that usually make stops regularly at the port of Funchal. She is a Norwegian full-rigged ship. The vessel was built in Norway, and was delivered on 17 June 1937. The owner was The Christian Radich Sail Training Foundation established by a grant from an officer of that name. The crew is 18 altogether. It can accommodate 88 passengers.
The vessel was built for training sailors for the Norwegian merchant navy, and did so for many years. From 1999 and on, the ship has been on the charter market as well as sailing with paying trainees to foreign ports on summer trips, and large sail events in various European ports.

O Christian Radich esteve na Madeira recentemente. É um veleiro que faz escalas regularmente no porto do Funchal. Foi construído na Noruega e entregue em 17 de junho de 1937.

O proprietário foi The Christian Radich Foundation Sail Training, estabelecido por uma doação de um oficial com esse nome.

A tripulação é de 18 pessoas e pode acomodar até 88 passageiros.

Foi construído para treinar marinheiros para a marinha mercante norueguesa, e fê-lo por muitos anos. De 1999 em diante, tem sido usado mais no mercado charter, bem como para velejar com estagiários para portos estrangeiros em viagens de verão, e nos grandes eventos de vela em vários portos europeus.

This was one of many photos I did.
I tried frame the picture of Cristiano Ronaldo with the third FIFA ballon d'Or he won.
I tried to fit the golden ball on his foot and I think I succeeded.

The sailing boats with french flag with three masts "Le Bel Espoir II" (right, with black hull) and "Le Rara-Avis" of Belespoir, anchored in the Funchal bay some weeks ago.
The first, in addition to the nine crew members can receive up to 27 students.

Os veleiros de três mastros de bandeira francesa “Le Bel Espoir II” (à direita, de casco preto) e “Le Rara-Avis”, da Belespoir, fundeados na baía do Funchal há umas semanas.
O primeiro, além da tripulação de 9 elementos pode receber até 27 alunos.
Por sua vez, o “Le Rara-Avis” (casco azul claro) tem ainda capacidade para receber alunos de cadeira de rodas.
Como nota dominante, a bordo destes navios os alunos têm diversas aulas como de carpintaria, de mecânica, de navegação, de cozinha e de soldador.

What you see in the foreground is an artificial beach created last year in the Funchal coastline. It is pebble, like there is usually on the beaches of Madeira, but this is man-made. In the background, in yellow tones we see the four stars Hotel Porto Santa Madeira and the Fort São Tiago, where there is a restaurant O Forte and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

O que se vê em primeiro plano é uma praia artificial criada o ano passado no litoral do Funchal. É de calhau, que existe normalmente nas praias da Madeira, mas esta foi feita pelo homem. Em segundo plano, em tons amarelos vemos o Hotel Porto Santa Madeira e o Forte de São Tiago, onde existe o restaurante O Forte e o Museu de Arte Contemporânea.

This is the statue of Max, one of the leading Madeiran artists of all time who lived in Lisbon and took the name of Madeira over the world.
He was born in 1918 and died in 1980.
This is is located in the old town of Funchal, next to the hotel Porto Santa Maria.
