Historic cannons



This is one of several cannons from the São Lourenço Palace, a historic fort built in the fifteenth century, a few meters from the sea.
Was a residence of many governors and captains of the island of Madeira, and few years ago, the representative of Portugal in Madeira. In addition to having even the Military Command.
It was restored and expanded several times throughout history. And in 1943, was considered a national monument.
It is considered one of the best preserved examples of architecture of the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Besides being visitable the palace, there is a military exhibition where visitors can see the history and development of the fortress.

Este é um dos vários canhões do Palácio de São Lourenço, uma fortaleza histórica construída no século XV a poucos metros do mar.
Serviu de residência a muitos capitães e governadores da ilha da Madeira e, nos anos mais próximos, do representante da República Portuguesa na Região Autónoma da Madeira. Além de ter ainda o Comando Militar.
Foi restaurado e ampliado várias vezes ao longo da história. E, em 1943, foi considerado monumento nacional.
É considerado um dos mais bem preservados exemplos de arquitectura dos séculos XV e XVII.
Além de ser visitável o palácio, existe uma exposição militar onde os visitantes podem ver a história e desenvolvimento da fortaleza.

  1. Wow you are from Maderi! Madera was the first country I visited. Beautiful country. I was a crew with P&O's Oriana and that was my maidan sailing.
